Can Of Peaches and a Salt Shaker!
This entry to the Group Writing Project #1 is from Celeste G.
Being that my kids are now almost all grown and in college I have one memory they still talk about today and two that we still do today when we are all together having a family dinner.
When they were little and it was bathtime — we would crack open some can’s of syrupy, sticky peaches — and they called it peaches the the tub time…for some that sounds gross — but my kids loved it –at the end of there bathtime, i would sit there and take a fork and feed them — with all the mess that it would create they were in the tub and it washed away… to this day they still talk about how much fun that was…I do it know when I babysit my nieces and nephews… who knows one day grandkid’s!!!
Now when we get together for dinner, (1 is married, 2 are in college, one is on her way out the door, to YWAM, leaving just one at home)
We do two things: the first is the High / Low question… around the table everyone says either the High & the Low points going on in there life, or when they were at home, we did the High / Low of there day — it really connects the family as to where everyone one is and how they are really doing… you will be surprised, when you have created the safe place for them to talk, what comes out of this. Now we have a ton of talkers in our family (only one soft spoken out of 7) so we give who ever is talking the salt shaker and no one is to interrupt them when they share. This makes them feel special and all the attention is on them.
And the last one is our encouraging round — everyone takes a turn at speaking affirmation over each person at the table or around a fireplace, or somewhere when there is no distractions… it so awesome hearing my grown kids express there hearts to one another and they in turn build each other up…. and hopefully do the same when they leave the nest…
Well there are my few tips… what an honor to be called mommy it is…..

I have adopted the mind frame that I really can’t sweat the small stuff. I used to worry about my son getting dirty, now I encourage it. He has so much eating cupcakes with his hands who would have the heart to stop him? Great story and memory for your children.
