Nalgene Tritan Grip’n Gulp- Sippy Cup

This outdoor plastics brand now has a perfect solution for a toddler sippy cup.  The Nalgene Grip’n Gulp has not one flaw that I can find.  Nalgene states, “The new Nalgene Grip’n Gulp™ is tough enough to survive being thrown form a moving minivan, spill proof enough to compel parents to blame the rug stains on the dog, and odor proof enough to allow leftover milk to go undetected under the couch for months. Most importantly, its a great way for little kids to reach new heights”, Grip’n Gulp does not fall short.  Available in blue, green, purple, and pink these spill-proof sippies retail around $7-$9.  I have tried everything I can think a child would do to a cup to get it to leak, and I just can’t.  It doesn’t even spill a drop when I throw it across the room.  I loved these BPA free cups so much that I ditched all our old oness and replaced them with these.  I have them color-coded by child, and they love them.  My favorite aspects of this cup?

* Larger size, great for soccer practice or any other need for my liquid loving little ones.
* Did I mention BPA free?
* Rubberized top- I just like that for some reason
* Ergonomic- great for grip and easy to carry with one finger… When you have only two hands and 10 fingers you can get a lot more accomplished when you can carry something with just a finger :)
* Sturdiest sippy I have found
* Absolutely leak-free as I have already mentioned
* Great colors, easy for color coding

These aren’t really available at many children’s stores (YET)… they are more likely to be found at outdoor or sporting goods stores.  But you can just go here

MAM Ulti-vent Bottles

There is no perfect bottle out there, but the MAM Ulti-vent wide mouth transition bottles come close. All MAM bottles and nipples are constructed of Bisphenol-A free agents. The bottle features a fun color variety for boys and girls and has a unique design with an easy-to-read scale for measuring and wide mouth for easy filling. I find that the best thing about these bottles is that it has a new one-piece MAM valve, which assures an air-free flow. Hence, producing a happier baby with less spit up and gas. This is great because the BPA free bottles out there don’t provide a valve system to prevent colic. Also, due to the wide mouth of the bottle, it fits other bottle brand nipples of wide mouth bottles. The interchangeability is great! Did I also mention that it’s way affordable? For $12.99 you get three packs of five or nine ounce bottles each with a No.1 slow flow nipple and cap. There was one thing that did make me skeptical about this bottle. It has a removable base (maybe highly leak causing) that is part of the valve, but as long as it is screwed on correctly and tightly, you will have no problem with leaking. If it’s not, it will cause major leakage.

Zaida Baby- My First Keepsake

When the creator of Zaida Baby- My First keepsake sent me her sleek baby book I had barely a moment to give it the attention it needed.  Now that life has settled down some I have really had a chance to look through both the book and her website.  I’m nothing short of impressed.  This baby book has been well thought out from beginning to end from someone that obviously understands the desires and emotions of new mothers.  This is the perfect baby book for the type of person that may never even buy a baby book because of how “cutsie” they usually are.  This black sleek cover with silver foil writing is something you would be proud to keep on your coffee table.

Zaida, meaning fortunate, sets the tone from the very beginning.  That babies are a gift, a blessing.  Beautiful black and white photos follow of pregnant women, families, and babies.  One photo in particular even has stretch marks in it yet, it hasn’t been touched up, yet is still so beautiful and real at the same time.

There is so much I could say about this book to get you to buy it.  But I’ll let you wander through her site and discover the features along with her 15 reasons to read it instead.  They are all true.  At $59.95, this book is worth every penny and would be a great life-long gift for the expectant mother in your life.

WIN THIS BOOK!  ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS LEAVE A COMMENT IN THE COMMENT SECTION HERE AND THEN LET THE EXPECTANT MOTHERS IN YOUR LIFE KNOW ABOUT THE CONTEST! (WE’LL TRUST YOU ON THAT ONE ;)) YOU CAN WIN IT FOR YOURSELF OR TO GIVE AWAY.  JUST MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE YOUR EMAIL ON THE COMMENT FORM SO THAT WE CAN GET A HOLD OF YOU IF YOU ARE THE WINNER.  WE WILL BE ACCEPTING ENTRIES UNTIL SEPTEMBER 13TH AT MIDNIGHT EST.

Mint - Free Money Manager

Check out this site! It’s the “best free way to manage your money.” Basically, Mint.com functions like Microsoft Money or Quicken, but it’s free and less hands on! A great way for families to handle personal finances: budgeting, evaluating your spending, learning how to save, and paying off debt. What Mint does is that it downloads, categorizes, organizes and graphs all of your finances automatically every day. Plus, it features a blog that updates you on financial news and gives you advice and tips. It’s gotten positive reviews from the Wall Street Journal, PC Magazine, and etc. Simple to use and very informative. Again, did I mention it’s free?

Summer Infant Bather

As a big city dweller, I was in search for the perfect compact bathtub for my newbie due to space constraints in an apartment.  So, I decided on the Summer Infant Bather.  At first, I really loved the fact that it was so compact, easily folds up and I can pretty much find anywhere to store it. However, I was disappointed with the use in the bath. The bather does not provide straps to secure my baby when he’s sitting, so I have to pretty much hold him up the whole time.  Thus, it really limits me to one hand to wash him.  Plus, my baby is squirmy, so I don’t find this bather safe.  Also, it’s not small enough to fit into a kitchen sink so I have to use the actual bathtub in the bathroom. Even then, I literally have to fill the tub with water almost half in height of the tub for the water just to cover my baby’s legs, barely. I feel as though I am wasting tons of water. This bather is probably better for an older baby, maybe 6 months and up, but I still would think it’s unsafe without straps.

Dr. Brown’s Bottles

Dr. Brown’s bottles are known for their ability to reduce ear infections and gas for your sweet little one. It’s unique airflow system makes it possible for a baby to swallow less air. This is by far the biggest pro to owning these bottles. In the past there have been plenty of cons to these bottles, but they have already solved two of the biggest complaints.

Problem- Neck to narrow to successfully pour formula powder in with out making a mess. Solution- Dr. Brown’s introduced the wide mouthed bottle. Unfortunately I believe this is only made in the original polycarbonate plastic that contains BPA.

Problem- Not BPA free. Solution- They have now started making both Glass bottles and polypropylene bottles that do not contain BPA. This is only available in the original narrow bottle shape.

Problem- Difficult and time consuming to wash. Each bottle contains many part to wash including a narrow tube with a brush, this part is difficult to clean. No Solution.

Problem- Leaks. No Solution.

Dr. Brown’s bottles are now clearly labeled so that the consumer knows which material they are buying in the case that they are buying BPA free products.

Dr. Brown’s bottles are moderately expensive at around $13 on average for a 3-pack, $13 for a 2 pack of glass. In an ideal world they would discontinue making the polycarbonate, BPA containing bottle all together. But because they have provided a safe alternative we don’t reject it all together.

Bumble Bags Infant Car Seat Covers

I first discovered these infant car seat covers while waiting at a restaurant to be sat. A nice lady with her twins had the cutest infant seats! I asked her where she got them and she showed me the tag. I went to the ever-reliable google and voila, I was introduced to the brand Bumble Bags.

The print for each car seat cover is designed with great care by Jennie Lynn Johanson. The entire Bumble collection focuses on fashion-forward diaper bags and accessories. Her Diaper Bags are better known than her car seat covers and are described by Johanson as, “special stain resistant fabrics with unique design touches never before seen in a diaper bag”.

With a price point around $90 the car seat cover is better priced than some of it’s rivals. Typically car seat covers seem to linger more around the $100-130 price point. And with the ability to have a matching bag and other accessories, what could compare?

The Piggy Story- Art Folio

I just discovered a genius product, and in doing so found a great brand. In their own words the Piggy Story is a place where, “every day, childlike wonder and creativity are breathing new life into the world of children’s products.”

Founded by owner/mother Peiling Hwang, who has a background working with Mattel, Disney Interactive, Oscar Meyer Lunchables and Hallmark, she sought out to build a brand that strove to see the world through a child’s perception, while not overlooking the parental concerns.

The Piggy Story products are divided into five categories: what piggy likes to read, when piggy wants a snack, when piggy wants to cook, when piggy wants to draw, and when piggy goes out.

The product that I found that turned me on to the piggy story was this art folio. Compact and cute this is the perfect accessory for a long wait at the dr.’s office, well-behaved children dining out, travel, etc. With spots for crayons (or markers) on the one side and a pouch for paper on the other, it folds into a child-sized case. I consider this the perfect gift for the young child in your life.
