Day Out With Thomas- the Great Discovery Tour

My 4 year old and 2 year old are possibly Thomas the Tank Engines biggest fans, so you can imagine their delight when they found out he was riding into town.  The day finally came and we told our bright eyed little ones.  We headed out on a 90 degree humid day to the event.  When we entered we were given a sheet and told if we went to each station and got a stamp we would get a free gift at the end.  The stations consisted of picture time with sir Toppham Hat, a tent with multiple train tables, story-time tent, Bounce houses, and picture time with Thomas.  The free gift at the end was a magnet frame for your pictures.  There was also a big room with thomas toys galore that you could spend your money on.

Our train tickets were for 4pm so we jumped into line at 3:45.  When it was finally time to board the children were in awe.  The train ride was really slow and 25 minutes long.  To us it was rather boring, but the boys loved it.

After the train ride it was time to take pictures with Thomas.  Owen felt let down that Thomas did not talk.  There was no QT with thomas either, it was simply a quick picture then on to the next little boy.  I think they should have had a thomas that the kids could climb on and touch.  Kids love discovering that way.

We left shortly after picture time and were slightly disappointed.  For $18 a ticket we expected a little more from our experience.  The boys did not know any different, but we know we did not get our money’s worth.  They could have added more stations like face painting, thomas balloon making, a thomas maze, Sodar playground…  These are things that would have made it more worth the money.  But with 3 bounce houses and some dinky stations it just did not live up to our expectations.  Still we are glad we went because the boys feel like they have met thomas.
