The Safe Side- Stranger Safety

51iafy36b4l_aa240_-1.jpgIf you happen to be looking for a way to teach your children about strangers but don’t want to scare them to much, Stranger Safety is your answer. This video, produced by John Walsh (America’s Most Wanted) and Julie Clark (creator of Baby Einstein.), will keep your child captivated. They will learn all about the “don’t knows” (people they don’t know) and the “kinda knows” (people they only kind of know), and make a list of “safe side adults” (people that their parents have said they can trust). Stranger Safety teaches kids the do’s and dont’s of stranger safety while entertaining in such a way that the hard reality won’t be scary. In my opinion, every household with children should own this video. I give it the highest praise. mlvi1.gif

We Are The Laurie Berkner Band

51vzm08qxwl_aa240_.jpgIf any of you watch Noggin you have experienced getting a Laurie Berkner song in your head. Why? They are catchy and fortunately decent! I have to admit, when I first saw her I enjoyed watching her video clips between Noggin shows.

One day as I strolled into Starbucks to get a pick-me-up latte, I saw it, a Laurie Berkner DVD. Beyond myself, I shouted “Yes, I will take one tall vanilla latte extra syrup with a Laurie Berkner DVD!”. I brought it home and my children were thrilled. It has turned out to be a great excercise DVD for them (and me,) as they (I mean we,) dance around to it. mlvi1.gif

Just ME! music

picture-4.pngImagine listening to a Sesame Street song dedicated to the name of your child. At first it’s strange to hear your child’s name blaring out through your speakers as a well-known character like Elmo declares, “Hi, Jaden! Are you ready to sing a song?” But once the initial bizarreness wears off (about 30 seconds), it really becomes a delight to see your child clap, dance and sing to their favorite characters. I was fortunate enough to find this product being sold at a kiosk in a local mall. Featuring characters from Veggie Tales, Sesame Street, The Wiggles and Disney, this creative concept brings songs to life for your little ones. Soon enough, your child will wait for the moments in the song when they’re name will be declared. I absolutely enjoy the Elmo one. My only caveat: be prepared to have your child request it … often. www.justmemusic.com.mlvi1.gif

Signing Time DVDs

41tqc7yglyl_aa240_.jpgIt really seems like signing has taken off in the last decade, and the Signing Time DVDs are some of the best resources in teaching your babies how to sign. Because the DVDs entertain your baby with songs, don’t be surprised if they catch on to signing very early. It is also helpful that the star teacher of the show, Rachel, has a daughter that is deaf, making her not only experienced with teaching signs, but a believer in its ultimate purpose: to create better communication between mother and child. Rachel does a great job of portraying warmth onto the screen, and before you know it your son or daughter may be signing for milk before they can even speak. The Signing Time brand offers a wide selection of DVDs and gift sets at a very reasonable price. mlvi.gif

Leap Frog- Letter Factory Dvd

51ugbxmr95l_aa240_.jpgDuring a conversation with my friends one day, Leap Frog - Letter Factory came highly recommended. I had told them that my oldest, (3 yrs,) had really been doing well with his alphabet and I was trying to think of ways to prepare him for reading. One of my best friends, (a kindergarten teacher) brought up Leap Frog - Letter Factory. Her occupation obviously made me listen. During my next trip to the store I purchased it. I could not wait to pop it in.

Leap Frog - Letter Factory did not disappoint! My 3 year old already knows most of his letter sounds and a word that goes along with it. Not only that! It has given me a helpful tool to teach him with. Several times a day he tries to name the letters in words he sees. Because I have watched his dvd with him I’m able to remind him using the sounds and examples from Leap Frog - Letter Factory. mlvi.gif
