Philips Avent SCD 590 Digital Two-Parent Baby Monitor

picture-5.pngPhilips introduces a baby monitor with a sleek design and new DECT technology. Heavily reliable, it gives complete peace of mind for parents. It has two small portable cordless parental units for moving freely around the house with visible link indicators that show continuous connection with the baby monitor. I love the cool design and it truly has clear reception and I haven’t encountered any static.  The coolest feature of this monitor is that is also functions as a nightlight, which an array of stars light up. However, I have a couple of problems.

1) the volume, at its highest, is still relatively low
2) the battery life for the mobile parental units is short
3) it’s very pricey.

Sony DVPFX810 8″ Portable DVD Player Black

41kubejiobl_aa280_.jpgWhether it’s long road trips, holiday flights or the occasional restaurant outing where you just want to focus on eating and nothing else, a nice DVD player is a must have. Although it’s important to be picky, DVD players are notorious for a short lifespan, either by accident (water spillage or getting dropped) or by overuse. So, without breaking the bank, I think the best DVD player under $200 is the Sony Portable DVD Player. For its manageable price tag, it looks surprisingly sleek and sturdy, and although black is their best-selling unit, it can also be purchased in cherry red or pink. Obviously, the screen resolution is what you would expect from a typical LCD monitor. The Sony DVD’s greatest features are the long battery life (easily four hours with power left over), and its smooth, swiveling monitor screen. So, while your child enjoys watching another episode of Dora, you definitely will get your return on investment—and maybe some of your sanity as well. mlvi1.gif

Epson Stylus Photo RX595

414sd0yjlql_aa280_.jpgThe nice people at Epson sent me this Epson Stylus Photo RX595 Photo All-in-One Printer as a temporary toy to try out for awhile. I was impressed. As lover of art, graphic design, and photography I use color printing often. I loved the great features. I made use of scanning in old pictures and being able to use their tool to update the image and print. I printed MANY pictures, all to my complete satisfaction. I even printed directly on CD’s; a great feature for saving those precious family photos and keeping them organized. The speed at which it did all these things with also surprised me.

The only feature I would want to see added to this printer to complete the mommy friendly package would be a wireless feature. My office is in the playroom and for my lifestyle I have to have the printer up and out of reach. This is made impossible with a small cord. However, many moms do not have this same situation I do so it may not be as important to others. mli1.gif
