The Tessy & Tab Reading Club

Welcome to the Tessy & Tab Reading Club

My husband and I try to read to my son every night before bedtime, and always make sure he has plenty of books in his play area.  Reading to him at a very early age (like pre-birth early) has led to his love of exploring these books on his own time and excitement whenever he is read to.

Starter Kit for Reading Club

Recently, I discovered a wonderful pre school magazine subscription perfect for ages 2-4.  The Tessy & Tab Reading Club helps build the different components that researchers believe your child needs to learn before being able to read such as being able to tell stories and understanding how books work.  A subscription for a year gives your preschooler 24 ad-free issues a year for only $48 a year!  I started with the Reading Club Starter kit which includes four books featuring Tessy and Tab, a parent’s guide to help aid in the reading developments,
program to build six skills for early literacy, and six more issues in the mail.  What I love most about this program is its simplicity and interactive tools to use for my son!

I love the idea of having more sources around the house to help my son to grow in his vocabulary and literacy skills.  Programs like Tessy and Tab give me motivation and inspiration for working with my son.  These tired days of mine require a lot of motivation to get involved with my son’s playtime.  They also have a variety of different topics to discuss with your child in their reading program.  Some of these separate Tessy and Tab topics include money management, Kindergarten confidence, and Tessy and Tab plane pack.  Tessy and Tab Reading Club is something that both you and your child will look forward to receiving in the mail twice a month and is a wonderful tool on the path to your preschooler’s literacy!

Epoc Magazine Rack

I like the few things in my home to be neatly organized and everything to be in its right place. My husband and I both have a few magazine subscriptions, and I dislike magazines strewn on a coffee table or desk.  I discovered Epoc magazine rack and knew it was a perfect solution.

The Epoc magazine rack was designed by a group of Otago Polytechnic students and made from a sustainable farm in NZ Pine plywood. One of the students from the class, Sameera Ekanayaka, is now producing them from New Zealand.  You can purchase this functional and very sturdy rack for about $94.00 from the vanilla design store.  I absolutely love the fact that the piles of magazines I once dreaded are now neatly exhibited in this beautifully designed magazine rack!

Craft: transforming traditional crafts

Let me start by saying I’m not the craftiest person alive. I would LOVE to be, but those genes somehow didn’t missed me. However, I LOVE people who are craft oriented and fall in love with all of the end product the crafts. That is one reason I love sites like Etsy.com.

When my issues of Craft: came in the mail I was immediately impressed. The small magazines are SO pleasing to the eye. They are clean, modern, colorful and leave you wanting to see more at the same time. I suppose that is what the cover of a magazine should do; leave you yearning for more.

The crafts are not your old school I’m embarrassed to put this in my stylish modern house crafts either. They are more like the amazing products you would find on Etsy and always wished you knew how to make.

The step-by-step guides for each craft are surprisingly simple to follow.  I was able to do most of the crafts, and that’s almost unbelievable! Accomplishing this, I felt like an artist extraordinaire!

The magazine contains the following categories:

  • A themed (by issues) Special Section
  • Columns
  • Features
  • Crafter Profiles

The magazine is even “green.” It is printed on recycled, process-chlorine-free, acid-free paper with 30% post-consumer waste, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and the Sustainable Forest Initiative, with soy-based inks containing 22%-26% renewable raw materials.

I can’t say enough about this magazine! It is laden with rich content and you will get more than your pennies worth out of every issue. If a non-crafty person can say this, then imagine how much more a crafty person would say. Craft magazine would also make a great gift also!

I’m so sad to say that shortly after I wrote this post I was informed by my Craft: contact that Craft: has stopped its print magazine operation.  The good news is they are still going to be active on their website.  This is happening to print media like a virus as the online world is growing so rapidly.   If this post sparked your interest in Craft: I strongly encourage you to go to the site as it is a useful tool for craft lovers everywhere.

COOKIE MAG CONTEST!

“C is for cookie and it’s good enough for me,” are the words famously sung
by Cookie monster, and I have to say, it’s my sentiments for the aptly named
mom-child magazine.  Cookie magazine made its debut on December 2005/January
2006 and prides itself on exploring “all the best for your family.”  It does
exactly that. There is a ton of information for mommies on a variety of
topics such as:  Style and Beauty, Celebrity moms, Child/Parent relationship
issues, Sex, Health, Mommy blogs, and thorough coverage on all the latest
trends. I love all of the content in the magazine because it has depth and
really cares about giving information that is solid and carefully
researched. Furthermore, my favorite part is the Editor’s letter.  The
editor-in-chief, Pilar Guzman, is so down to earth and her letters are so
personal that I can relate to her in a real way.  It’s a “must have!”

CONTEST:  What is your family’s dream vacation?  Where and why?

PRIZE:  WIN a year subscription to COOKIE Magazine or renewal for one-year
if you are a subscriber.

TO ENTER: Simply write up your entry and either publish it on your blog or email it to email(at)doesmommyloveit(dot)com (if you do not have a blog).  Then email us (either way) at email(at)doesmommyloveit(dot)com and give us a link that goes DIRECTLY to your post.  At the end of the contest we will be publishing all links to posts and announcing the winner

DEADLINE: Midnight August 17th.  Winner will be announced within a couple days after that.
