OnTray 2 Go is a mom invented, multi-use container designed to attach to the shopping cart handle. It’s compact, has a lid, and comes in a variety of colors. It attaches to a shopping cart handle to make snacks within reach for your child and hands free for you! It could also be used for shopping accessories like coupons and a calculator. It is dishwasher safe and BPA free, two definite bonuses.

This is a great idea and my daughter loved it. She was able to reach her snack easily, and I got a little shopping done. However, half-way through our shopping experience my 15 month old quickly figured out how to take it off the handle. We not only lost our excitement for the ontray, but we lost our snack too. After it came off, I bought a refill snack and decided to give it another chance. Before the end of our shopping, my daughter had mastered how to take it off and started playing peek-a-boo with it. If your child is younger and not quite as savvy, then I could see where this would be great. Or if your child is older and can understand to not take it off the handle, then it could also work. It’s a great idea, but it didn’t quite work as well as I had hoped.

What do you get when you combine an sweet orange with a Chinese mandarin? A Cutie! These easy to peel and seedless mini oranges are DELICIOUS! My entire family raved. Cuties are high in nutritional content and incredibly kid-friendly. I loved not having to hunt for the seeds to make them safe for my boys. They were also easy to throw in my diaper bag and peel on the go.

Similac Organic Formula

Is organic really that much better for babies? Well, Similac, one of the leading empires of baby formula, thinks so and I think so too. The company recently came out with an “organic” version of their already very popular formula. Used and recommended by hospitals nationwide, Similac has an incredible reputation among parents and pediatricians. I HAD to give it a try!!! With the craze of going healthy and natural, anything containing corn syrup is a no-no! Not having corn syrup makes a world of difference because I am keeping the fertilizers, pesticides, and antibiotics out of my child. Through research, I discovered that the ingredients found in fertilizers, growth hormones, pesticides are unhealthy and are being fed to cows through eating the grass, which in turn consumed by my baby are carcinogens. What a scary thought! Despite it being organic, the Similac brand has some controversy regarding the kind of sugar they use. A recent article by The New York Times (read the full article here) states that “Parents may be buying it because they believe that organic is healthier, but babies may have a reason of their own for preferring Similac Organic: it is significantly sweeter than other formulas. It is the only major brand of organic formula that is sweetened with cane sugar, or sucrose, which is much sweeter than sugars used in other formulas.
No health problems in babies have been associated with Similac Organic. But to pediatricians, there are risks in giving babies cane sugar: Sucrose can harm tooth enamel faster than other sugars; once babies get used to its sweeter taste, they might resist less sweet formulas or solid foods; and some studies suggest that they might overeat, leading to rapid weight gain in the first year, which is often a statistical predictor of childhood obesity.”

Like the article states, there IS a difference between sugar in this formula and other organic formulas. Other organic formulas such as Earth’s Best and Bright Beginnings contain lactose. True, they’re both sugars, but lactose is what’s found in breast milk, is a more complex sugar, generally takes longer for the body to break down, which in general is a good thing. The explanation of the use of sucrose instead of lactose in this formula could be that it is cheaper than organic lactose. After trying out the Similac Organic formula, I have found that it caused my baby some painful gas, which made him cry inconsolably. After doing some research and seeing that many people were having this problem, we consulted our pediatrician and switched to Bright Beginnings. Within a day of the transition, we started seeing more frequent stooling with a healthy consistency and less irritability. Similac Organic formula is certified organic, has DHA and ARA, special nutrients found in breast milk that are clinically proven to support mental and visual development in baby’s first year, has a higher level of special nutrients to help support baby’s developing immune system, and provide the balance of protein, minerals, and other nutrients. However, with a high price tag of $30 for 25 oz. can, you can find better options such as the Earth’s Best, Bright Beginnings, and Parent’s Choice.

A friend of mine referred me to Sillie Smile and I just fell in love with the bibs. These bibs are handmade by a mom, Jen and was inspired by her daughter. The unique shapes ( all moon themes) of the her items fit so well on a baby. With the “Collar” bib, it actually looks like a collar on your baby’s neckline and the thin silhouette dresses up the outfit s/he is wearing instead of hiding it. Despite its size, the “Collar” bib catches drool very well. My son’s a drooler and this bib comes in handy. These bibs are great for babies that are teething too, and since they are a little shorter than your average bib, they won’t “block” your baby’s outfit, but will accessorize it! The “Full Moon” bib is great for babies who drool intensely as well as for big eaters. Shaped like a big circle, the bib serves a great purpose when feeding your baby. Another great feature is that these bibs are REVERSIBLE, with terry/chenille on one side and cute designer fabric on the other, and held together with a vintage style pearl snap button for heightened security to know that your baby can’t rip off the bibs. Jen also makes other fabulous items. After researching her etsy site, I’m a huge fan of the “Crescent Moon” blankies, which are lined with soft cotton. I also love her burp cloths and the name of the shape is so fitting, “Half Moon” burpies. All of the fabric patterns are very modern and matches any mom with style. Plus, these baby items are so soft, so fold them up and take one, two, no, three in your diaper bag wherever you go. Everything at Sillie Smile are made with 100% cotton, and are lovingly made from my pet-free and smoke-free home. All items are pre-washed and shrunk with very gentle, hypoallergenic soap (not detergent). Sillie Smile rocks!
