Piddle Pad by Kiddopotamus

Got leaks? Then, you must have heard of the Piddle Pad. I stumbled upon this product as I was doing some research to find items that would have helped me reduce the amount of clean up during potty-training stage for my then, 3 year-old. Made of two layers of terrycloth, which provided a soft seating with high absorbency, the Piddle Pad protects car seats, stroller seats or most infant seating from diaper blowouts and potty-training accidents. Plus, lined with sealed vinyl backing, very conducive for quick and easy clean-ups. This has been a somewhat of a convenient item and the wipeable pad made potty-training somewhat stress-free! I thought it would be a great feature to have on long road trips. However, there are some “cons” to having this product. It doesn’t fit in all carseats. I purchased a new carseat during the time I was potty-training and the Piddle Pad did not fit well in the new one. There is no way to secure it in the seat, so it constantly moved and bunched up with the simple movements of my child. Furthermore, the material is not made of breathable (which is a factor of being waterproof) so Jaden got very warm while he sat in his carseat with the Piddle Pad on it. After taking a break during a road trip, I thought Jaden had an accident, but his pants were soaked with sweat from sitting on this. All in all, it does the job.

Wipes Warmer

One of the most interesting gifts that I recieved during my baby shower, was a wipes warmer by Combi (other companies make it too). A wipes warmer came in a case like that of a wipes holder and warmed the wipes so that when it’s time for a diaper change, I changed my newbie without waking him up by startling him with cold wipes. In my experience, my son went through 8-12 diapers per day and at least 2 diaper changes at night for the first couple of months. To be honest, I really didn’t think using a wipes warmer was necessary. But after seeing that my son did so well with it, I didn’t mind. I actually understood the concept of having your wipes warm. It soothed my son and didn’t wake him up at all. However, I never could continue using it because I needed to plug it in and just to be safe, I always left it unplugged. Then, it took a while to warm up again. With the one I had, there wasn’t an on/off switch either. Also, I was always nervous about the wipes becoming too warm to burn my baby’s bottom. Plus, the wipes easily dried up and the edges turned brown. After a while, I just stopped using it because my son slept through the night. During the day, I rarely used warmed wipes since I was always out and about. It just became a hassle and didn’t want my son to get used to it since he had to go to daycare. Ultimately, the idea of having warm wipes is grand, I still think it’s more of a luxury than a necessity.  You can survive without it!
