If you need an excuse to indulge in a great treat, look no further than Theo brand fine chocolates.  These creations are not only delicious, but organic and fair trade certified, made with renewable energy and sustainable packaging, and sold primarily in natural food stores and small co-ops.  There is also a vegan line available.

Be forewarned, these chocolates are designed for the discriminating chocolate consumer, not the casual user!  Including such flavors as coconut curry, bread and chocolate, fig, fennel and almond as well as some more traditional flavors such as mint dark chocolate and coffee.  I liked the single origin Costa Rica 91% for it’s extra antioxidant punch, but recommend trying the hazelnut crunch or bread and chocolate for a less intense experience!

As you have probably seen time and time again on this site, I am huge advocate of wooden toys.  I believe that the tactile element of wood is wonderful for a child’s learning as well as a springboard for their imagination.

My son’s latest obsession with all things with wheels has been more than satisfied with Jack Rabbit’s wooden fire truck with seven firefighters and a Dalmatian puppy companion!  This beautiful fire truck with moving wheels also includes magnetized figures that help them from getting lost and add a fun component to your child’s playtime.  Every time we are out and about, and my son spots a fire truck, his excitement is through the roof.  Spending hours paying with a wooden toy one is the next best thing for him!

What makes this fire truck extra special is the company who designs it.  Jack Rabbit Creations is a small company that sells only to specialty markets.  Their products are original and designed by them!  They tend to use wood, tin, cotton and other natural materials and are supporters of the “no batteries required” philosophy.   What I love most is that they are truly a “mom and pop shop” with husband and wife Erica and Jim Lancaster in the office and one employee!  So, please do check out Jack Rabbit Creations when searching for a quality toy for your child or some else’s!

In my humble estimation, I find Swedish people to be some of the most fashionable on the planet.  If this sounds like a generalization, I encourage you to check out some of the many street style websites this small country boasts.  The same can be said for the children of Sweden!  A while ago, I happened upon the wonderful Vyssan Lull website (named after the pronunciation of a Swedish nursery rhyme) which carries a number of fabulous Scandinavian children’s clothing lines.  All of the products carried are expertly made using the greenest of practices.

I received a few pieces from two of the lines carried that included a hand made short sleeve tee shirt by Vouffen, a pair of knit drawstring shorts and a zip up hoodie by Plastisock.  All of these pieces are made from 100% certified organic cotton, and dyed using eco friendly, chemical free colors.

In addition to the superb quality of materials and construction, I am most impressed by the designs of these pieces.  I adore the retro association they convey while simultaeonsly maintaining a modern look and feel.  These are basics that will become the go-to pieces for every day use for their durability as well as their fantastic appearance.  Leave it to the Swedes to give us a helping hand to making our children a little more fashionable and comfortable!

From the wonderful Tyler Trends clothing line, comes the long sleeve Panda Bear print shirt!  The shirt comes in a rich asphalt hue and features a simplistic, adorable face of a Panda Bear.  This shirt (as with all of their pieces) are made in the USA in ethical, sweatshop-free manufactures.  This shirt is made from 100 percent fin ring spun cotton and is made in sizes for children aged 2-6.  This shirt is one that my son has worn many times already and I plan on keeping in his wardrobe as long as he can fit into it.  I absolutely love the cute design and color on him! Dressing up is something that my son has enjoyed doing for more than a few months now.  He loves trying on Daddy’s sunglasses, hats, and even walking around the house in our shoes!  That’s how I knew he would love Luna Organic’s Animal Medley Face Paint!

He is rather patient for a one year old, as I apply the paint to transform his face into any number of animals.  The payoff comes when I take him to a mirror and he laughs with glee at his transformation!

When I have a little free time (ha) I love trolling Etsy for fun and interesting products. For those of you not familiar, Etsy is an online marketplace for people to buy and sell handmade products.  It can be overwhelming to sift through the strange (stained glass screendoor suncatchers, anyone?) and the mundane (soooooooo many quilts). But, sometimes you come across a shop like Piou piou kids it’s all worth it!

Handmade in New Zealand by owner and designer Natacha Lee, Piou piou kids uses only organic or upcycled materials.  The products arrive lovingly wrapped in a handmade pouch with handwritten care instructions. I was fortunate to review the Carnival “Wild Things” Hoodie and I fell in love.  The clever design, the bright patterns, the kid-friendly softness, the eco-friendly materials, I could go on! Needless to say this will be a hand-me-down in our family for years to come. You won’t find items like these anywhere else. Check out the adorable shoes made from old hammocks or the baby yoga pants made from secondhand t-shirts.  After a good wash and dry, I am also impressed by the durability of the hoodie.

A few months ago, I was introduced to the wonderful Vancouver based clothing line, Nicole Bridger.  This beautiful clothing line was started by its namesake, Nicole Bridger and in addition to being beyond chic, takes a socially conscious approach to every garment they create. What I failed to mention in my last review was how most pieces from Nicole Bridger can be worn easily during various stages of pregnancy!

The pieces I recently received were the “Centered Top” and the “Truth Blouse”  both of which I have no problem wearing at my current 6 month pregnant state.  I adore that these pieces make me feel comfortable and chic even if I am more robust than usual!

Nicole Bridger’s line come highly recommended to all those who love beautiful pieces made from organic materials and a lot of heart. I plan on purchasing a few pieces from this line as it is something I can wear just as easily post pregnancy as well!  Right now you can find UNBELIEVABLE deals on a few of her designer pieces.

One of my favorite online companies, Sprout Baby, has now started carrying a fabulous new baby care line called Episencial.  Being that one of my son’s favorite books is “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, I knew by the looks of the baby wash bottle it was a winner!

The organic foaming wash is a gentle and hydrating cleanser that rinses off very easily.  It’s fragrance free with a hint of organic orange extract allowing for a fresh but mild smell.  A cleanser our family has come to truly love.  I finish off the bathing ritual with a baby message using the Episencial hydrating lotion.  During these winter months this product has definitely kept my son’s sensitive skin moisturized.  It includes ingredients such as organic olive, lavender oil, and more, perfect for your little one’s skin!

In addition to the Episencial line, Sprout Baby carries Baby Beehinds Hemp Reusable Diapers!  Made with 55% hemp and 45% certified organic cotton, these diapers keep my son dry for hours! I normally shy away from stuffed animals because of how cheesy they often are.  For my son’s first birthday grandma gave my son a stuffed animal and he instantly fell in love.  I had never seen him hug and adore something so much.  Once I discovered his soft side towards stuffed animals I began the look out for organic and interesting ones. I absolutely love the selection of clothing for my young one that is sure to be sweatshop free!  Christine Kelly, designer of Dadoo Kids, has developed a line of modern, playful, and incredibly comfortable clothing for kids!  The materials are made with organic cotton and bamboo blends with each pattern piece being uniquely made. Each piece made is knit, without closures and have elastic waistbands allowing for stretch and flexibility for your little one!  I received the very hip Moto Tee and Infant Lounge Pant.

The organic cotton Moto tee is so soft and has the cutest vintage motorcycle design. Motorcycles are, of course, one my little man’s passions right now.  The tee is made in the USA and definitely compliments any bottoms you put with it.

The infant lounge pants are a 50/50 blend of organic cotton and bamboo.  They are one of the most comfortable pants my son owns.  They are easy to put on which definitely helps with the potty training process.  These are dream play pants because they even have slight kneepads built in to prevent holes and provide ease on the knees.  Most of all, the design is sweet and makes for a great outfit for my son!

Beeluxe is a modern, organic personal care and home décor product line.  The core ingredient in their products is organic beeswax.  The beeswax is an earth friendly, renewable resource derived from a beehive. It is free of dyes and artificial fragrances.   As one extremely sensitive to fragrances, this line has worked well for me.

Their organic beeswax candles are fabulous.  The aroma is fresh and the beeswax allows it to burn cleaner and longer than the paraffin candles that I also own. It was a breath of fresh air. They have a variety of scents such as grapefruit and rosemary, lavender, and macintosh apple. These are perfect scents for the holidays.

Their body lotions are made from 85% organic honey and are light enough to use on hands and effective enough to treat the body. They carry a fantastic bar soap called the Great Bar of China which is scented with ylang ylang and mandarin. It is 85% organic and laced with organic honey, a natural antibacterial.  I love the raw look to this bar and the fact that it cleans my hands without stripping them of moisture.

Beeluxe will make great gifts for the holidays.  The fragrances are extracted from plants, which make them free of phthalates, parabens, sulfates, and other harmful substances.  Not only is Beeluxe organic but also made in the USA!

Under the Nile boasts an impressive collection of clothing, blankets, toys, diapers, and accessories – all made with 100% Egyptian organic cotton.  I was sent the Summer Babybody for review and was very pleased with it.  Very cute monkey print and extremely soft cotton… If you’ve jumped on the organic bandwagon, Under the Nile is definitely worth checking out.  As far as apparel goes, they cover all the bases in infant clothing – onesies, gowns, pajamas, footies, and dresses – no flashy patterns here, just your basic  stuff made with quality cotton that’s:  grown in Egypt, hand-picked, organically cultivated, dyed with natural colors, and fair traded for the benefit of all people producing the product.

            There’s no better start to my workout routine than with a great yoga outfit with a great meaning.  I tend to be more motivated and confident in my workout when I feel comfortable in my ensemble!

            Swami Baby is a wonderful yoga clothing line for infants and toddlers as well as their parents.  Created by a yoga instructor and mother of three, Katie Holley sought out to give a “voice” to her little ones.  “Swami baby not only strives to give this wisdom a voice, but also acts as a calming reminder for adults to relax, enjoy themselves and take life one baby step at a time.”  This is such a refresher for my own life right now.  It truly does give good perspective when you are in the midst of stress.

            Swami Baby carries yoga pants, organic tops, sweaters, and gifts for both adults and babies!  My favorite is their “Think Green” organic tee for babies and toddlers!

As most mothers can attest, at every baby shower and every event related to our infant, for whatever reason we were all given tons and tons of blankets. And use maybe 3. If only I had been given the Lotus Bebe bamboo blanket! This blanket has almost too many luxurious features; it just seems crazy for something as simple as a blanket to have had so much thought and care put into its creation, but its true people, it’s incredible!  The blanket is made of bamboo fiber fleece which really does feel like cashmere and has a 100 % silk trim. Like so many of the products that we review on this site we are doing our best to find the products that are the healthiest for our families and for the planet; and the use of bamboo does just that. The manufacturing uses sustainable raw materials, is naturally hypo-allergenic and is naturally resistant to certain types of harmful bacteria, keeps out harmful UV rays and is thermal regulating. It is also more breathable than other fabrics and is moisture-wicking (which is fantastic if your babe chews on the blanket). Yes, all those things, AND each blanket comes with a grosgrain ribbon and a tag printed on 100% recycled paper that you can actually plant in the ground. No seriously, you take a tag, put it under a thin layer of soil, water it every day and watch your blanket tag turn into flowers. It’s all too much. This would really make the perfect shower gift or a wonderful addition to any baby’s crib. They come in two sizes: large 30″x30″ which is perfect for swaddling or the petite 15.5″x15.5″ for the wee one who needs to snuggle. Also, available in many colors! Clearly,

With all of the organic soap lines for children, Little Twig stands apart from the rest.  This is the soap I currently use and will continue to use on my son.  I have the non-irritating Tangerine Body Wash and truly adore it.  It lathers up while being gentle on the skin and is ph balanced.  It is made with organic ingredients and is pediatrician tested and approved.  There are no synthetic fragrances or artificial colors.  What I love most about the organic line Little Twig is their recycling policy.  In order to promote the recycling of their bottles, mail them four of your empty containers and they give you a 30% discount off your next online purchase!  I’ve yet to come in contact with a company that is that serious about keeping it Green!

Truly, this has been my favorite line of baby cleansing products thus far.  Not only is it organic, green, but affordable.  Their shampoo and body wash is only $10.99.  They also carry the most adorable ladybug bath mitten for only $4.50!  This is truly a line whose ethos is as great as their product.

With all the hype around organic apparel, let BioME5 NOT be missed.

Maker of kid’s apparel BioME5 was created by two architectural designers who combine their fascination with nature’s beauty with an appreciation of the visual learning processes inherent in all children.  Their graphics are vivid, colorful, and imaginative, and introduces the child to animals of the wild not often mentioned in other books (jaguar, xenops, urchin…)

My son was immediately drawn to it when he opened his Q (quail) shirt and loves sporting it.  I love how the text appears strangely upside down to anyone but the child wearing it… But when my little boy sports this shirt and looks down to see how quail is spelled, it’s a perfect fit.

Kudos to BioME5 for making their products with kids in mind!
