Last year, I bought this throw for my days in the park and I cannot tell you how useful it was. Not only is it large, measuring 84 by 54 inches, it’s also 100% cotton on top layer to provide cushioning. Underneath, it’s lined with a water-resistant nylon, providing protection from wetness. Pretty much this is the all weather blanket for long days in the park, picnics, and afternoons at the beach. Plus, it’s machine washable and dryable. The throw easily folds into a compact carrying sling with two side pockets and a Velcro closure and comfy shoulder straps. This lightweight throw by Tuffo is the perfect companion for every outdoor and indoor activity.mlvi1.gif

Mini Micro Scooter

41elmp-ehjl_aa280_.jpgOne thing is certain—my kid loves it! This lightweight scooter designed and made by the renowned Swiss manufacturer Micro, lives up to its awards. My son got this as a gift for his 3rd birthday, and a day doesn’t go by when he isn’t scooting himself all over the house. Unlike other bulky scooters, the Micro is a surprisingly smooth and quiet ride, and its soft frame leaves me worry-free from scratches along the house. The scooter has withstood numerous tumbles down the staircase, and has noticeably improved my child’s feet coordination. Only caveat is that the Micro glides exceptionally fast, so please have your child helmet ready. It comes in pink for girls! My verdict echoes my son’s:mlvi1.gif

We Are The Laurie Berkner Band

51vzm08qxwl_aa240_.jpgIf any of you watch Noggin you have experienced getting a Laurie Berkner song in your head. Why? They are catchy and fortunately decent! I have to admit, when I first saw her I enjoyed watching her video clips between Noggin shows.

One day as I strolled into Starbucks to get a pick-me-up latte, I saw it, a Laurie Berkner DVD. Beyond myself, I shouted “Yes, I will take one tall vanilla latte extra syrup with a Laurie Berkner DVD!”. I brought it home and my children were thrilled. It has turned out to be a great excercise DVD for them (and me,) as they (I mean we,) dance around to it. mlvi1.gif

THE NEW YORK TIMES Parent’s Guide to the Best Books for Children

Now in its third edition, revised and updated, The New York Times Parent’s Guide to the Best Books for Children by Eden Ross Lipson names the best 1,001 children’s books of the 20th century. The book is organized into sections by text level categories (wordless books, picture books, story books, early reading books, middle reading books and young adult books). The guide provides a synopsis and gives information about the value of the book to the child’s learning. The best part of this guide is the “indexes” pages. These are available to help in finding a specific book because it is divided into sections by title, author, illustrator and subject headings.

Although this book is a helpful tool, I felt the organization could have been better. To me, it would make sense to classify the books based on grade levels, so that parents who don’t have much knowledge on children’s literature can gauge which books should be a necessary vs. a supplementary read during the school year. mli1.gif
