If you are athletically inclined, perhaps you are aware of the new barefoot movement that has begun gaining momentum.  The philosophy basically states that many traditional athletic shoes with their firms soles and arches don’t give your foot and leg muscles the complete range of movement that nature intended, leading to muscle and joint strain and sometimes even injury.  My husband, who recently took up running, is a firm believer in this and after using a “barefoot” style running shoe was amazed by how easier it was on his hips and knees.  While there is still much research to be done in this area, it is proven that a child’s foot and bones are quite malleable up until the age of 9 to 11.

Soft Star Shoes is a phenomenal footwear company that produces comfortable shoes, boots and sandals for the whole family here in the USA!  I received their “Dorado” shoe in a beautifully rich chocolate colored leather with an orange leather strap at the top.  The shoe is simplistic in design with a very malleable soft rubber sole that will mold to your toddler’s foot rather than the shoe molding your child’s foot! The designs Soft Star Shoes are absolutely adorable for your little one.  If you don’t happen to be a big fan of leather Soft Star makes a vegan variety.  Definitely check out this site when considering a pair of proper shoes for your child!  Kudos Soft Star!

Direct from France with love, come the wonderful Deglingos character toys!  These gloriously tactile toys come from 48 different fabrics and string making them a wonderful feast for the eyes as well!

The Deglingos each come with their own back-story along with a double portion of personality.  They have been designed and crafted with a great deal of care and it shows in each of their adorable appearances.

The Deglingos line has something for every age group such as rattles and Baby Deglingos for infants, bath toys, and original Deglingos for those a bit older.  I am loving the mini Deglingos that can easily clip to any stroller, car seat, or backpack.  These mini characters add spice and décor to an object.  If you are really digging the Deglingos style you can invest in a pair of their machine washable “kicks” for your 6-24month old!

Collegien, the chicest of French companies, makes slippers for adults and children.  The slippers are made from a strong knitted material and have a non-slippery, ergonomic, aerated PVC sole.  They come in three styles, which are ballerina, low sock, and high sock.  They come in a variety of marine stripes and colors.  Our personal favorite is the Englantine.  I just love how fashionable the blue and white stripes look with his outfits!

My son wears his in our home for warmth, and also for traction on our sometimes slippery, bamboo flooring.  They can also be used as shoes due to the sturdy PVC sole.   The slippers are so cute on him and comfortable too!  These slippers have been a great way for my son to learn to put on and take off his shoes as well.  They are easy and take very little time.  This is something of importance for a soon to be mother of two.  Best of all, when they are looking a little grubby these slippers they can easily be thrown into the wash!

Another winner from Zid Zid!  The Eco Poof is a perfect addition to your home and comes in all of the usual beautiful colors.  One of my favorite things about this piece is that it goes the extra mile for the planet by being shipped flat and encourages the user to go green as well by filling it with recycled newspaper, magazines, old clothes, and even stuffed animals!  What a great project for parent and child for a great introduction to recycling!  This also lets you fill your Poof to the desired shape and firmness.  Like Zid Zid’s other award winning pieces, the Poof is made from high quality, phalate-free vinyl from Europe, and is made by hand by skilled artisans in Morocco.

Also new from Zid Zid is their eco friendly Baby Booties!  They are made naturally from farm raised, cruelty free sourced leather, processed by hand, water-based dyed, and tanned using tannins found in local Moroccan trees.  These are adorable and I can’t wait to slip them on my newborn’s little feet!

Shabby Apple is an online boutique that sells their namesake clothing line of dresses.  Their philosophy, which I really admire, is centered around the one-piece dress on its own without the addition of countless layers for coverage and completion of a look.  They have a wide variety of dresses many of which are maternity friendly that are simplistically elegant on their own!

I was sent the “Tuxedo III” in a chocolate brown hue.  The name comes from the tuxedo shirt-like frills on the front of the piece as well as the ruffled collar.  The color is as gorgeous as the fabric, which is made primarily of linen, perfect for summer weather!  Best of all, because of the empire waistline, I can fit into this now at nearly 7 months pregnant!

I encourage moms to check out the Shabby Apple for some beautiful dresses that need no additions except a smile and perhaps a bit of jewelry!  Don’t be surprised at how great you feel in these dresses!

When I have a little free time (ha) I love trolling Etsy for fun and interesting products. For those of you not familiar, Etsy is an online marketplace for people to buy and sell handmade products.  It can be overwhelming to sift through the strange (stained glass screendoor suncatchers, anyone?) and the mundane (soooooooo many quilts). But, sometimes you come across a shop like Piou piou kids it’s all worth it!

Handmade in New Zealand by owner and designer Natacha Lee, Piou piou kids uses only organic or upcycled materials.  The products arrive lovingly wrapped in a handmade pouch with handwritten care instructions. I was fortunate to review the Carnival “Wild Things” Hoodie and I fell in love.  The clever design, the bright patterns, the kid-friendly softness, the eco-friendly materials, I could go on! Needless to say this will be a hand-me-down in our family for years to come. You won’t find items like these anywhere else. Check out the adorable shoes made from old hammocks or the baby yoga pants made from secondhand t-shirts.  After a good wash and dry, I am also impressed by the durability of the hoodie.

As I have stated before, in order to maximize ability in any sport, it is imperative to be equipped with the proper gear!  For running and speed walking, I have been using the Asics Gel-Kinetic 2 running shoe. These add shock absorption and added stability to each stride.  The shoe is made from Asics special solyte material, making these the lightest running shoes I have ever used!  One would think that such a light running shoe would forfeit ankle support, however these are beyond comfortable!  I can really feel the absorption technology while on a treadmill or concrete.

Also from Asics running gear is the double-layered polyester headband.  This piece is made from Asics’ Thermopolis material that is extra soft, light, and warm.  It is anatomically designed to fit your head perfectly with four way stretch for maximum comfort.  This piece is perfect for jogging in inclement weather, providing great warmth, without the annoyance of heavier, bulkier headgear.

As I my pregnant belly grows it feels good to stay active.  My last pregnancy I rarely removed myself from the couch.  I later paid for it.  It took me so long to get back in shape!  It definitely helps having great pair of Asics shoes such as sweet apparel to keep one motivated.  Here’s to a healthy pregnancy!

Just because I am a mother, doesn’t mean I don’t love to feel beautiful! Feeling beautiful and comfortable is the goal of Australian luxury boot makers, Australia Luxe.  This style of boots have their origins that trace back to as early as World War I and are made from sheepskin, lined with wool and often have a rubber sole.  Comfort and warmth helped this style of boot catch on in the United States in the early 2000’s.

Before my pregnancy, I was training to be a long distance runner.  I felt the best I had ever felt.  Running was no longer about staying fit but became a sport and passion of mine.  As this new world opened up to me, I began to see the importance of wearing the right gear to make this sport as easy and comfortable as possible.  The running shoes are the most important.  I had been hearing fabulous things about Brooks running shoes and just had to give them a try.

During the winter months, warm, cozy, and comfortable shoes are a necessity.  There’s nothing like a pair of Sorel Suka boots to keep you warm this winter season.  Sorel footwear is heavily insulated to withstand very low temperatures.

The Suka model fits my particular style the best.  They are black and the design is simple.  I can wear them with anything and they can be worn for long strolls through the park! I walked a good six miles wearing these, while pushing my sons’ stroller.  The Suka’s outer layer is waterproof and the inside is lined with fleece. No buckles or laces to worry about, I just slip these puppies on and out the door I go.  The fact that my feet have remained comfortable and warm thus far this winter season allows me to give them a four star rating.

After gaining an exorbitant amount of weight during my pregnancy, I needed an exercise plan to help shed the pounds.  Running has always been my favorite workout and I needed the right shoes for the right price to get me started again!  Shoezoo, an online discount shoe store, offered affordable name brand athletic shoes for the whole family.  Once I discovered this site I was on the road to a healthier me!

I am more than slightly obsessed with rain boots at the moment.  I love how comfortable, cozy, and easy they are to wear.  Being a city dweller makes rain boots a necessity as walking in foul weather is often unavoidable.  Aigle makes my favorite rain boots.  They carry various boots depending on lifestyle such as sailing, hunting, horseback riding, etc.

Their tagline reads, “Shoes for a happy planet.” The company Simple Shoes is all about sustainability, and it doesn’t take you more than 5 seconds on their website to know that they’re way serious about creating shoes that are eco-friendly. I admit, when a company preaches green I always wonder if style and comfort is sacrificed or they’re claiming more than they actually do.

In this case, simply put, Simple shoes are the real deal. Not only are they passionate about creating awesome shoes that feel great and look nice too, but they also hold sustainability on an equal scale. They have a video on their site that actually explains it better than I could with a dose of self-effacing humor.

My son has been wearing the Bike tire shoe for the past month. Made with all reused materials such as hemp and car tires, not only does he love it, but he runs around like he’s Lightning McQueen of Cars fame. My infant son wears the delightful slippers, Green Piggies, that are 100 percent sustainable. Numerous of times I’ve had fellow moms compliment on the slippers, with many thinking it’s one of the other known brands. When I explain to them that my son’s slippers are the most eco-friendly around, it doesn’t take long before they ask for the company’s website.
Simple shoes have also made it easy to categorize their products by three simple rankings: Good, Better, Best. With each shoe they not only describe in detail its composition, but also scale its sustainability. This is the kind of transparency lacking in a lot of consumer goods, so it’s refreshing to see a shoe company creating a high standard for others to follow.
Because of their avid commitment to sustainability, this has been one of the easier products to love. I honestly feel like it’s an added bonus that the shoes actually fit well, look fashionable and are durable. The conclusion is simple:

What We Think: These shoes have been assembled beautifully! They have a little less of a sole than the Jack & Lily shoes we reviewed last week, but have more support than a Robeez slipper. These shoes have plenty of flexibility for little crawlers and cruisers and durability of the leather and construction is obvious. The toes of the shoe just barely turn up which is perfect for babies development. The adorable stitching detail on each shoe adds to its charm.

These shoes come in four sizes: 3-6 months, 6-12 months, 12-18 months, and 18-24 months. They state on their site that the shoes run a little big and I found this to be quite true. The 3-6 month seemed closer to a 6 month shoe to me. Most of the shoes run $30 while the bootie shoes run $35.

My personal favorite are in the new fall collection— for girls, the Mary Jane in Tweed. And for boys, the Sportie in Tiger.
